Add A New Custom Field To An Asset

Overview

There are two options to create a custom field for an asset. Custom fields for assets can be created from either the asset form or the data dictionary. Custom fields can be created for any asset type - facilities, equipment, tools or parts and supplies.

1. On the asset form

1. Navigate to the asset record that you want to add a custom field to. Select the Custom Tab, and click Add Custom Field.

2. Add a Name, Label, select a Type, and asset category. The Name must start with a letter, and continue with letters, digits, or underscores.

3. Select Also apply this field to all child categories if the field should apply to any sub-asset categories of the asset category selected.

4. The new custom field is now visible under the Custom tab. It will be applied to all assets in the same category, as well as its sub categories, if the later was selected in the prior step.

2. Data dictionary

1. Click Settings, Data Dictionary, and tblAsset.

2. Click Add New on the lower left hand side of the pane.

3. Add a Name, Label, select a Type, and asset category. The Name must start with a letter, and continue with letters, digits, or underscores. Select Also apply this field to all child categories if the field should also apply to any sub-asset categories of the asset category selected.

4. The custom field is listed with a check-mark in the Data Dictionary indicating that it is a custom field.

5. If we navigate back to the Asset record, and click the Custom Tab, the new custom field is now listed.
