Important Notice for those Printing Barcode & QR Codes

Overview

A number of users have used 3rd party vendors to print their codes, using other formats, with negative results. The problems do not become evident until after you the codes are in place. 

1. Camera - The QR code works well on one smartphone, but not the next. The reason is quality of the camera on the smart phone which can give mixed results. 
2. Environment - Harsh chemicals can damage the codes, sunlight or UV light fade the pattern prematurely, dark areas can make the codes difficult to read, and paints or oils can block the pattern.
3. Size - Be sure not to print your codes too small to be read on your smartphone. If the lines are too faint or too close together, no smart phone will be able to pick up the pattern.
4. The Quality of the code printed can determine whether it can be read or not. In some cases, the lines may be blurry which will make it impossible to read.
5. Finish - Shiny gloss or matt finishes can also have an influence on the phone's ability to read the code. 

The easiest way to mitigate against many of these issues is to print your codes on the recommended format which is 22mm, or 7/8 inch. If you must use another format, be sure to get a sample printed and put them into the production environment for a beta test. You can then iterate if issues surface.

Recommended QR Code Format

The mobile app supports the QR-code format generated and printed from CMMS. Codes are generated and exported to a PDF document in high resolution, print-ready format, with 30 QR codes per page. The PDF files can be printed on Avery address labels and attached to assets in your facility.
