Deleting and Dealing with Erroneous Meter Readings

Overview

This article will outline the steps required to delete erroneous meter readings. This situation typically arises when a user enters a wrong value by mistake. There are two outcomes from adding a meter reading to an asset.

1. A meter reading is simply logged against the asset and nothing else happens

2. A meter reading is logged, and a scheduled maintenance is triggered

1. A meter reading is simply logged against the asset and nothing else happens

If an erroneous meter reading is entered against an asset that does not trigger a scheduled maintenance, then the meter reading can be deleted immediately.

1. To delete the meter reading select the asset record, click Metering/Events, and select the Last Reading record.

2. Hover the cursor overtop of the record and click Delete.

2. A meter reading is logged, and a scheduled maintenance is triggered

If an erroneous meter reading is entered that triggers a scheduled maintenance, then the scheduled maintenance itself needs to be deleted in order to delete the meter reading. Any meter readings that trigger a scheduled maintenance are highlighted in yellow.

Note : We recently added a feature that warns the user when a meter reading will trigger a scheduled maintenance work order. This proactive check should reduce the need to delete a given meter reading:

Steps to delete a meter reading that triggered a scheduled maintenance

1) Delete the work order that was created by the scheduled maintenance

2) Delete the associated scheduled maintenance

3) Delete the meter reading

3) Re-create the scheduled maintenance

1. Delete the Work Order

Locate and delete the work order generated by the scheduled maintenance:

2. Delete the Scheduled Maintenance

Locate the Scheduled Maintenance that triggered the Work Order, and delete it.

3. Delete the Meter Reading

Navigate back to the assets Meter Readings History, hover the cursor overtop of the record, and click Delete.  The meter reading is now deleted.

4. Recreate the Scheduled Maintenance

We want to make sure that we recreate the scheduled maintenance, to make sure that all further rounds of preventive maintenances are generated.
